About
I'm Guido Witt-Dörring, a software developer based in Vienna, Austria. I work at EFS Consulting and spend a lot of my free time building open source tools and contributing to developer communities.
I'm probably best known for my work in the VBA ecosystem — things like cross-platform Unicode handling, OneDrive path resolution, and fast dictionary implementations. These are the kinds of problems that seem simple on the surface but turn out to be surprisingly deep — and I enjoy that.
Beyond VBA, I work with TypeScript, Rust, C#, Python, and Svelte. I like building tools that solve real problems — whether that's a web app for optimally mixing groups, admin tooling for Immich, or a VSCode extension.
I'm active on Stack Overflow where I hold a gold badge and have answered questions on everything from VBA string encoding to OneDrive API quirks. If you've ever googled a VBA problem and found a detailed answer with working code, there's a chance it was mine.
When I'm not coding, I'm probably sailing. I'm a co-founder of Boaty McBoatclub — a sailing and social community that runs oversized cruises, ridiculous regattas, and absurd adventures. The name is a tribute to the legendary Boaty McBoatface incident. Our motto: "My drinking friends have a sailing problem."
